Disney and Florida (Part 2)You can check out my first part of Disney and Florida at https://themeparkpriest.weebly.com/blog/april-06th-2022. The latest news is that the Florida legislature has passed a bill that would dissolve Disney’s self-governance (basically Reedy Creek Improvement District is a quasi-government agency) at Walt Disney World. Governor Ron DeSantis has also signed the bill. DSNY Newscast explains why this bill may not have the intended consequence of dissolving the agency: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBKTzdD2tbU.
Regardless of whether the dissolution occurs, I side with Florida in its desire to end special privileges for the Disney Company. Some people estimate that Disney saves tens of millions of dollars each year through this special arrangement. The arrangement was probably necessary back in the 1960’s but it seems to have served its purpose of getting Walt Disney World up and running. The Disney Company (through leaked phone calls but also current programming) is doubling-down on pushing sexual idelology (basically brainwashing) kids. The Mouse has gotten too powerful for its own good; parents and some politicians (I’ll attribute good motives to them) are trying to get them to get back to their original focus of helping families.

My final project for the WDWMagic.com Imagineering Forum competition "One Little Spark" was due last night. The finalists were asked to chose a project that was based on theme park nostalgia for us. I chose to work with transportation, because my experience of Walt Disney World monorails and buses were instrumental for me in becoming a transportation engineer. The current site of Test Track has always had a transportation theme to it, so it was the most fitting place to put the park. Below you will find both the link for my website showing off the project as well as an illustration of the lift hill. I am awaiting the results to see how I finished.
https://sites.google.com/view/astheworldmoves/ The business that is speaking out the most about Florida’s new “Parental Rights” bill is Disney. Dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by critics, the bill would give parents more control over what is taught to their kids in elementary schools (specifically grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade). Disney is doubling down on their own sexual morality by pushing for LGBTQ+ characters in their movies and shows, including ones geared for children. This despite the fact 61% of people in Florida support the bill (only 26% are against it). It is popular even among suburbanites and Democrats. Anxious parents are boycotting Disney, and this time, it sounds like for good.Outside of church circles, it is rarely discussed that parents are the primary educators of their children. Due to needs like providing income for their families, parents often delegate the responsibility to the state (through public schools) or to churches or other agencies (through private schools). This does not mean that schools can teach whatever they want to. Every school should be grounded in things like truth (including the natural law), beauty, and goodness. As an alternative to Disney, the conservative news service The Daily Wire is investing $100 million over the next three years to create family-friendly programming. There are also limited conservative-friendly theme park options with Dollywood and Silver Dollar City being the main ones (as I’ve mentioned before).
